In 2010, the AWO Kreisverband Gifhorn e.V. decided to set up a self-help contact point in the district of Gifhorn.
Since 2016, the contact point has been fully recognised and is funded by the statutory health insurance funds,
the state of Lower Saxony and the district of Gifhorn. Since the beginning of 2016, Rebecca Pohlmann
and Bettina Brandt Bettina Brandt have been working for the self-help centre. Since March 2018
Sabine Campe has been supporting the Self-Help Centre.

Self-help contact points
- inform and advise about self-help
- arrange contact between people looking for a support group and suitable self-help groups
- found, promote and support self-help groups
- carry out public relations work to draw attention to support groups
- promote cooperation between self-help groups and social and health care institutions
